Best Hotels 2020
Forbes published the annual Forbes Travel Guide 2020, the best hotel, restaurant and spa in the world. This year, for the first time, Russian hotels got into it — and just ten in this list.
The new, 62nd in a row, Forbes Travel Guide for the first time included 10 hotels from Russia — five from Moscow and five from St. Petersburg. This year, the guide expanded its geography to 16 more countries and, along with Russian ones, debuted hotels from Antigua, Bahamas, Cambodia, Egypt, Fiji, French Polynesia, India, Jordan, Maldives, Mauritius, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Seychelles and South Africa — a total of 107 new five-star hotels.
All of them were evaluated by 900 objective parameters. Numerous experts of the guide travel anonymously through the hotels of the world, stay in each room for at least two days as an ordinary guest and record everything that can be assessed — even such trifles as the speed of greeting guests at the entrance to the hotel (you need to be in time in 30 seconds), quality cutting staff uniforms and the degree of delicacy when handling personal belongings of guests during room cleaning.
The original five-star guide rating system (not to be confused with the standard star hotel classification) appeared back in 1958, when it was called the Mobil Travel Guide. Today, the highest rating — five stars — is given to “outstanding, often iconic objects with impeccable service and excellent amenities.” Four stars award “exceptional hotels offering a high level of service and related amenities.” The third category — “Recommended” — includes “excellent hotels with consistently good service and amenities”
