Cocoa Island
Male, Maldives
Cocoa Island is a small, private island resort designed for those seeking an easygoing, foot-in-the-sand experience. The rich, warm waters and bountiful coral also promise some of the world’s best beaches, snorkeling and diving. Guests are welcome to wake up to an empty horizon from an over-water bungalow; as evening approaches, watch a tiny fishing boat ply the cobalt ocean. Cocoa Island offers indulgent therapies, Yoga, diving, gourmet cuisine and exciting excursions.
Location
Cocoa Island, known locally as Makunufushi, is located among South Male’s coral atolls. Guests don’t need to take a seaplane but a 40-minute speedboat transfer from Male.

Recreation
At COMO Shambhala Retreat, Asian-inspired treatments include massage, emotionally rebalancing holistic techniques, facials for restorative skincare and authentic Ayurvedic therapies. The active life is a vital part of the COMO Shambhala experience. At Cocoa Island, guests can enjoy yoga, or use the sea and gym to keep fit and well.
COMO Shambhala is proud to attract the very best holistic wellness experts. Pramod Kumar was trained by Sri Prahalade Redi from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre, India. He has been a full time teacher for the past nine years and for over four years has had his own Yoga school in India.
Although most of the guests come to Cocoa Island to relax in privacy, there are others who spend their time exploring the local region — both above and underwater. The diving is exceptional, with the team available to teach beginners and challenge the experienced. Guests can also go deep-sea fishing, partake in water sports off the beach, like windsurfing or catamaran sailing. The resort offers beach drop-offs, dolphin and sunset cruises or guided snorkeling.
Dining
The approach to cuisine is modern, light and respectful of South Indian nuances. Menus also offer contemporary interpretations of other Asian and Mediterranean classics.
Ufaa is a space with covered and uncovered seating. It flanks the resort’s infinity-edged pool, in natural wood and Kajan thatch, and is presided over by Italian chef, Raffaele Dadone.
The resort also offers healthy COMO Shambhala Cuisine alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In addition, the restaurant is offering a set Indian and Thai dinner menu as well as a Seafood BBQ buffet on selected days.
Butlers can also serve a private dinner on the terrace, or in a silent space on the sands — lit by candlelight, under a simple tent, with the water lapping at the toes.
