l'Auberge du Pont de Collonges

Lyon, France

Located four kilometers north of Lyon on the banks of the Sane near the Pont de Collonges, this family house has become an obligatory stopping point for gourmets from every corner of the globe. Paul Bocuse was born in Collonges-au-Mont-d′Or in Feb 11, 1926, into a family line of cooks dating back to the 17th century. He was awarded his first star in the Michelin Guide in 1958, and three years later won the Meilleur Ouvrier de France contest (Best French Artisan). In 1960 he transformed his father′s simple inn into an elegant restaurant and won his second Michelin star. The third star in 1965 crowned his years of dedication to gastronomy. At the occasion of his decoration with the Legion of Honor by President Valery Giscard d′Estaing in 1975 he created the now-classic Truffle Soup VGE, which definitively fixed his culinary reputation throughout he world.

Named “Cook of the Century” by the Gault-Millau Guide and “Pope of Cuisine” in 1989, Paul Bocuse led chefs out of their kitchens into the limelight, and has incarnated the profession for more than half a century. Owner of several restaurants in the Lyon area in addition to his great three-star establishment, he has developed numerous international activities related to his name.
