Amanwana, Bali
Bali, Indonesia
A natural Eden on land and sea. Derived from aman and wana, the Sanskrit words for peace and forest, Amanwana is a wilderness hideaway on the Indonesian island of Moyo. In this natural paradise, Mother Nature reigns supreme across more than 32,000 hectares of protected jungle. Here, overlooking the turquoise, coral-rich Flores Sea, Amanwana offers just 12 tents set in consummate seclusion between rainforest and shore. Low-impact and eco-friendly, the standalone tents have hardwood floors, view-embracing windows and soaring, air-conditioned canopies sheltering king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms. A beautiful restaurant and open-air spa sanctuary enhance the private island feel of this exclusive wilderness hideaway.

The Indonesian-influenced Amanwana massage works deep into the muscles with long, soothing strokes. Ease tired muscles and rejuvenate the mind after a day of adventure in the sea or wilderness. Based on traditional therapies, the Indonesian milk bath leaves the skin soft and supple and the body fully relaxed. A one-hour massage is followed by a gentle body scrub that prepares the skin for a natural detoxifying mask made from milk, honey and essential oils, before plunging into a warming milk and herbal bath.

Dining
The Restaurant, looking over the Flores Sea to Medang Island and the mountains of Sumbawa, serves fresh and simple cuisine, much of it made with products grown or reared on the island. The catch of the day, direct from the fishermen’s boats, is a highlight of the daily menu, which can be tailored to individual tastes. The restaurant is open to guests and non-residents.
The rainbow colours of dusk offer an occasion to try a new cocktail from the bar. The Amanwana martini, perfectly suited to the tropical climate, is infused with fresh mint to give a cooling kick to a classic cocktail. The resort’s own garden produces many of the vegetables, fruits and herbs used in the kitchen. Join the Chef in the garden to pick out ripe produce for that night’s dinner, or for a cooking class in which you can learn the recipe of your favourite dish.
Dine alfresco by the sea as the sun sets, surrounded by lanterns and with your toes dipped in the sand. Private meals can be arranged in an isolated beach spot, or enjoy an atmospheric barbecue over a bonfire with a personal chef and butler.
