The charme of the Hotel Su Gologone in the countryside of northern Sardinia resides all in its unique blend of suggestive atmosphere, quality, service, comfort and tradition. There are the buildings are scattered amid gardens, silent parks, arcades, courtyards and stone alleys, olive and medlar trees, next to a large swimming pool of spring water overlooking the soft, slivery horizons.
Taking its name from the natural spring just a few minutes walk from the entrance, the hotel sits at the feet of the Gennargentu massif — an impressive mountain range with the name translating in English into ‘The Silver gate’. Comfort and relaxation are the keywords and the beautiful rooms, decorated with antique furniture, all have stunning views across the countryside. The corridors of the hotel boast a fine collection of paintings and the little library has many books covering local history and art.
Hotel Su Gologone lies in the heart of Sardinia, at the foot of Supramonte, a mountain steeped in folklore. It is surrounded by an undeveloped landscape of unique beauty, with centuries-old juniper trees, wild olives, and knotty juniper.
The hotel is full of artistic works by many local and contemporary artists with paintings, statues and sculptures in wood, clay and iron. Several areas are dedicated to different styles, artists and sculptors.
The public areas are full of private corners, antique furniture, seating areas and terraces with scattered colourful cushions, shaded by voiles, scented with fresh flowers and lit by candles in the evening. There is an old library with original tools and full of beautiful books to peruse and a small art gallery with a studio for those wishing to paint inspired by the surroundings. Also, there is an arts and craft shop and a wine cellar that can be seen through a section of glass floor. This is a romantic refuge to relax without music or shows and no televisions in the public areas.
In the gardens in front of the restaurant there is a springwater swimming pool and a large grass terrace surround, with sunbeds and a gazebo for massages (extra cost). There is a small fitness area, massage room, jacuzzi and in the grounds there is a tennis court, mini football pitch, yoga lessons(extra cost) and mini golf under the shade of the trees.
The popular Su Gologone restaurant is open to the public with original furniture and open fireplace (still used to cook the suckling pig). The terrace restaurant is for guests of the hotel, traditionally furnished with colorful art and ceramics and offers an elaborate buffet style breakfast with an array of locally made yoghurts, jams and preserves, breads and pastries. Dinner is a set menu with table service with a choice of breads, antipasti, pasta, meats and desserts, accompanied by local Sardinian wines.
There is a lounge bar with outside terrace and the poolside gazebo bar provides drinks and snacks during the day with a shaded al fresco area. The contemporary Bar Tablao on a summer’s evening offers a wonderful setting in which to enjoy an aperitif or digestif.
