Recreation
Hakuba is famous for its natural volcanic hot springs. Sierra has a well sought after Nigori vent feeding 100% certified pure onsen baths. Nigori Onsen water has only a mild vapor and is mellow on the skin; leaving guests with a clean feeling-body. Baths are located at the end of the hall in the east wing where large photo portraits of local natural scenery can be found.
Hakuba’s central location makes it a mecca for Japanese outdoor sports lovers in all seasons. Hakuba offers 2000m of vertical drop, 12 ski areas and varied terrain for all ages and abilities. The most popular winter activities, of course, are skiing and snowboarding. In winter, aside from the massive snow levels, foreign visitors to Hakuba find several festivals and nearby temples well worth a days jaunt away from the ski fields.
Peaks, glaciers, ponds, lakes and streams everywhere. Hakuba in all seasons is a paradise for the outdoors. From hard-core downhill to mellow forest trails, mountain biking here is a must for the knobby-head. Canyoning, rafting and canoeing will keep guests cool. Multiple-day treks from peak to peak; staying at mountain huts atop glorious summits; bathing in isolated onsen pools and camping in remote areas; reachable only on foot or by helicopter; are popular activities for nature trail lovers. Other popular Green Season activities include: paragliding, bird watching, horseback riding, tennis and golf. Situated right in the middle of Japan and nestled in the dramatic Northern Japanese Alps, Hakuba is one of the best-kept secrets for holidaymakers and great outdoors lovers.
Dining
Hotel’s main dining room has been recently renovated to further take advantage of the natural splendor outside. Expanded windows and nuanced lighting have been added to enhance dining experience in the serene natural environment. Hand selected ingredients are delivered daily from the organic farms of Shinshyu, the Sea of Japan and as far away as Europe. Chef Kanazawa blends his culinary talent with his knowledge of local seasonal delicacies to design his menus with special attention to highlighting the flavors and colors of the season. Japanese Kaiseki course dinner, served in a 150 year old farmhouse, can be reserved in lieu of French course dinner. Local and imported wines are recommended by steward for appropriate pairing with evening’s menu. The Bar offers French cuisine and a la carte menu. The first cocktail or soft drink is served to the staying customer free of charge.
