Amanzoe
Porto Heli, Greece
Porto Heli, Greece
Ancient Greek epic. The helicopter flight from Athens to Amanzoe creates a swift segue into an altogether wilder Greece - a place of pure nature, where time stands still. Scattered with Unesco ruins, the undiscovered Peloponnese has been at the heart of Greek culture for millennia - and it is here that Amanzoe has made its hilltop home, a modern-day Acropolis from which 360-degree views encompass olive groves, Aegean blue, and little else. Designed to meld with the land, suites and villas with pools belie a remarkable sense of space, opening to fragrant gardens or the beach, where speedboats lie waiting to zip between secret coves and the nearby islands of Spetses and Hydra. Private Beach Club a short drive from the resort, set in a picturesque bay.
It takes 2.5 hours by car or 25 minutes by helicopter to get to Amanzoe Hotel from Athens International Airport.
Drawing on classic Greek architecture, with strong lines and a pared-back aesthetic, Amanzoe’s standalone luxury Pavilions all open onto terraces with private plunge pools and views of the surrounding land and sea. Each Pavilion is accessed via a stone-walled courtyard, leading to a high-ceilinged living area and king-size bed positioned in a marble alcove with views over the Porto Heli vista.
Situated directly on the beach, the spacious air-conditioned Beach Cabana provide all the comforts of a Pavilion, combined with an expansive terrace and swimming pool. Guests can enjoy a day on the beach, swimming in the sea, discovering bays by canoe and sunbathing in privacy. Meals can be enjoyed at Amanzoe’s Beach Club restaurant or in the privacy of a Beach Cabana. Gym and spa treatment rooms are also available.
Amanzoe’s luxury Villas are cool, spacious abodes surrounded by olive groves. Overlooking the Aegean Sea, each of the one-to-nine-bedroom Greek Villas features an open terrace with sand-coloured marble floors, traditional dry stone-clad walls and concrete columns and cornices. A chef and a host serves each one.
The light-filled 2,850 sq m Aman Spa combines ancient Greek beauty rituals with Asian techniques. Taking place in one of the great healing centres of the ancient world, Amanzoe’s Individual Wellness Programmes are comprehensive wellbeing programmes, expertly tailored to the wellbeing needs and health goals of every guest. Lasting three nights or more, both cleansing and weight-management pathways balance movement, nutrition and mental and spiritual elements to deliver meaningful, lasting change in body and mind.
Amanzoe’s Aman Spa is situated close to the hilltop and comprises seven double treatment rooms, two hammams, a watsu pool, Thai massage room and a hair and finishing salon. Fitness facilities include a gym, yoga pavilion, Pilates studio and two tennis courts. Each Immersion includes a daily programme of specialised therapy sessions, movement classes and personally prescribed Aman Spa treatments, supported by individual nutrition plans designed to meet the unique neurophysiological needs of each guest.
Nine treatment suites offer a variety of relaxing moods and expansive views. Massages, scrubs and facials are available in five indoor and two outdoor spa spaces, which are joined by a Watsu pool and manicure studio. The An'ă-trip'sis treatment is designed to relax muscles, improve circulation and encourage inner peace. This spa treatment features a full body acupressure, followed by dry skin brushing, an olive oil and beeswax relaxing massage along with cupping and a laurel oil head massage.
The yoga pavilion hosts a range of sessions for all levels from its tranquil hillside setting. Body alignment and breath awareness are the focus of the hatha, vinyasa or ashtanga practices, while full-moon yoga sessions are set in the Amphitheatre. Revitalise with the nurturing benefits of Watsu. A Watsu aquatic therapy session involves floating in warm water, supported by a therapist’s arms. Watsu’s gentle stretching and movements are known to support muscle rehabilitation and relieve stress.
Used in Aman Kyoto’s spa, Aman’s all-natural skincare range is grouped into three unique formulations – Grounding, Purifying and Nourishing. Products are selected to meet various need states in tailored spa treatments, and can be purchased for use at home.
The private beach and beach club are set below Amanzoe on a sheltered bay. Complimentary transfers take guests down to the Aegean, where non-motorised watersports can be enjoyed. The serene beach club is home to four swimming pools and overnight Cabanas, as well as a casual eatery and two-room spa.
Amanzoe, surrounded by undulating olive groves and overlooking the turquoise Aegean Sea, is a ten-minute drive from the tavernas and cosmopolitan stirrings of Porto Heli, Greece. The isles of Spetses and Hydra are nearby, as are countless ancient ruins, from millennia-old amphitheatres to Byzantine monasteries.
Surrounded by Greek islands and uninhabited islets, the Peloponnese peninsula is ideal for day trips and cruises onboard one of Amanzoe’s watercrafts. Sail and swim in secluded coves, or visit the cosmopolitan island of Spetses, known for its seafaring traditions and Venetian and neoclassical architecture. The car-free island of Hydra is also within easy reach.
From junior yoga sessions to specially crafted children’s menus, Amanzoe’s attention to detail extends to the whole family. Cruising the Aegean and exploring the nearby ancient Greek ruins are well suited for family groups, while children can enjoy additional activities, including tennis lessons and Watsu therapy, under the supervision of specially trained staff.
From Nama’s Japanese cuisine to the Restaurant’s Mediterranean fare, Amanzoe places the focus on simple flavours, expertly prepared. Daily deliveries of local bass, bream, grouper and crustacean, as well as locally reared lamb, pork and rabbit, make Amanzoe a champion of produce that is local and seasonal – all served in the airy Restaurant, with its deep-blue sea views, by the pool, at the informal Beach Club, or surrounded by candles in private.
Try the catch of the day cooked in salt dough, with caper-tomato salsa. Amanzoe’s network of skilled regional purveyors ensures the luxury Greek resort serves only the freshest, highest-quality ingredients year-round. Fresh and nourishing mediterranean dishes are served poolside by day. The lunch menu focuses strongly on local Greek ingredients and produce, from mezze to lamb and shellfish.
Gourmet pizzas from the wood-fired oven highlight the menu at the Beach Club. After a day on the water, the informal eatery offers a range of refreshing drinks and revitalising dishes, including bite-size Greek specialities and freshly caught fish.
From beekeeping to viticulture, the region’s agriculture is in full bloom. Visit nearby growers to harvest olives and pomegranates, or sample some of the region’s best cheeses and wines where they are made.
Sip sundowners from the central bar or by the outdoor fireplace. The resort’s cocktails are inspired by the 12 Olympian gods – and Zeus, the god of sky and thunder, is the bartender’s speciality, made with Hendrick’s gin, red grapes, fresh rosemary, lime peel and orange bitters
Dine beneath the stars in Amanzoe’s amphitheatre. Guests can enjoy a specially prepared degustation menu in Amanzoe’s open-air Amphitheatre, offering space and privacy within a curving stone embrace.
