The Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

The Edwardian-style five-star hotel, built in 1904, was recently redecorated and refurbished and now combines the charm of the old with the convenience of the new. Set in lush tropical gardens with lily ponds, palm trees and semi-tropical shrubs, it provides the tranquility and seclusion that many guests seek. The ambience of the hotel is steeped in that history with all suites decorated in the gracious Edwardian style of Zimbabwe’s colonial era. It has 161 rooms comprising 18 suites and the Royal Suite. The latter, as the name suggests, has seen reigning monarchs, presidents and, more recently, many famous Hollywood stars among its privileged occupants. Echoing its glorious past, The Victoria Falls Hotel’s traditional rooms and suites are truly a five star experience. Style and sophistication are trademarks of the hotels executive suites, which are luxuriously appointed with decor being warm, inviting and rich with tradition.

The Victoria Falls Hotel is situated in the Victoria Falls National Park, a world heritage site. Closest Airport is Victoria Falls International Airport.

Small executive meetings and private dining facilities are easily arranged for those who wish to combine a little business with a lot of pleasure, and all in a secluded and discreet environment.

A large swimming pool, two tennis courts, a library, reading rooms and chapel are part of the complex. Golfers can enjoy 18 holes on the championship course of the nearby sister hotel, Elephant Hills Resort.

The quaint beauty spa is typically sized with two massage beds in the hotel and one at the poolside. All staff is qualified beauticians offering a range of treatments from massage, facials, pedicures and manicures. Massage treatments are available in the airy gazebo located around the poolside or in the tranquility of the hotel gardens. The Spa specializes in Clarins facial and beauty products, these products are also available for purchase by guests.

For guests who wish to take in some game viewing, a five kilometer drive (or walk) brings them to the national park and, guided by professional rangers, they will seek out Zimbabwe’s “big five” — elephant, rhino, leopard, lion and buffalo — and be able to capture their encounters forever, on camera!

A sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi River, just upstream from the magnificent falls, is another must for the visitor and will be arranged by hotel staff. Crocodiles, abundant hippo and new friends are the staple of these legendary exhilarating cruises. But it is the Victoria Falls Hotel that remains the major attraction for visitors. Waking up to the sound of “the smoke that thunders”, seeing the sun rise beneath the mist of one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the lunar rainbow at night, all the while soaking up the history and ambience of a bygone era, is more than unforgettable — it is unique.

The elegant Livingstone Room offers a classic a la carte or 7 course degustation menu and award winning wine list. Whilst the Livingstone Room reflects the century old hotels style of grandeur and opulence, the dress code has been relaxed for the convenience of the guest. However it is still smart — closed shoes for men, strictly no jeans and shorts.

Dining at the Jungle Junction offers an unforgettable experience with a fusion of African flavors. Entertainment from ethnic groups epitomizes the spirit of Africa. Jungle Junction is the ideal venue for incentives groups.

Stanley’s Terrace is a must for light meals throughout the day. Traditional high tea is served every afternoon, with spectacular views of The Victoria Falls Bridge and the Victoria Falls themselves. Nothing is more relaxing than a sundowner in the Stanley’s bar offering the hotel’s famous cocktails or a gin and tonic whilst listening to the roar of the mighty Victoria Falls.

Located next to the poolside the open air Pool Bar serves a full range of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Guests can also order light meals and snacks that are served under the thatched gazebos. Live ethnic entertainers perform everyday at lunch time.
