Shangri-La Hotel is the luxury urban resort. The inspiration for the hotel’s brand is the legendary story of Shangri-La, a paradise for travellers high among the Himalayas (Lost Horizon by James Hilton).

The hotel comprises 262 contemporary guestrooms and 17 suites, as well as the exclusive Horizon Club Lounge. Rooms are spacious with a minimum size of 43 square metres and suites provide from 86 up to 250 square metres of luxurious space. Guests can enjoy stunning views of Potala Palace or the breathtaking mountains (surrounding Himalayas) and relax among traditional Tibetan architecture and interior design. 10 units of one or two-bedroom long-stay apartments are also available with 86 to 129 square metres of comfortable living space.

Location

Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa is situated amidst striking mountain landscape and is just minutes from the Norbulingka Palace and the Potala Palace, both part of the “Historic Ensemble of the Potala Palace”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Buddhist temple monastery of the Potala Palace was built in the 7th century as the Dalai Lama’s winter residence. Norbulingka Palace was built in 1755 and served as the traditional summer residence. Lhasa is the capital and largest city in Tibet and means “Place of God”. It sits on Qinghai-Tibetan plateau on the banks of the Lhasa River at an altitude of 3,650 metres above sea level, and is one of the highest inhabited regions on earth. The city is surrounded by the Himalaya mountain range and has over 1,300 years of history.

Guests can reach the city by train on the world’s highest railway, or by air to the Lhasa Gonggar Airport just 50 kilometres from the city centre. The hotel is located right in the centre of Lhasa city, a 10-minute drive from the Lhasa Railway Station.

From Lhasa, you can travel by car to each of Tibet’s magnificent holy lakes, which the concierge is delighted to arrange.

The hotel offers Shangri-La’s signature dining concepts with Shang Palace and the all-day dining restaurant, Altitude. Lodgers Lounge and Shambala are ideal for a relaxing drink and light meal. All dining outlets draw from Tibetan culture and Lhasa’s unique landscape, and provide seasonal outdoor seating.

Executive Chef Ida Tang has been working for Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts since the late 1980s. With over ten years of experience as an Executive Chef, she brings a wealth of expertise to Shangri-La Hotel, Lhasa. Her career has taken her all over China and she is passionate about sharing her culinary ideas with guests from all over the world.

Altitude, the all-day dining restaurant, features live cooking stations that offer a variety of international cuisine. The extensive buffet serves a wide range of Tibetan, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Cantonese and Sichuan dishes.

Shang Palace serves outstanding Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine. Ten private dining rooms provide a stylish and intimate setting, while the main dining room is ideal for a gathering of family and friends.

Shambala serves imported beers, whiskies and cocktails with mouth-watering Yunnan and Tibetan tapas. Guests can relax indoors or enjoy the majestic mountain views from the outdoor garden terrace. You can meet friends at Shambala for a taste of local barley wine with authentic Tibetan-Yunnan tapas.

Lodgers Lounge is the perfect place to unwind with a drink and light meal. The cool patio of the Lodgers Lounge overlooks the city Lhasa and majestic mountains, and you can enjoy a cup of tea while reading the book there.
