Recreation
A heated fresh water pool overlooking Waikiki Beach has become one of Halekulani’s most talked-about landmarks. On the bottom of the pool is a stunning mosaic of a Cattleya orchid, comprised of 1.5 million pieces of imported South African glass tiles.
When ready to explore the beach, a concierge can arrange a wide range of outdoor activities. From outrigger canoe rides, surfing and snorkeling to sailing and deep-sea fishing, all these exciting Hawaiian experiences await.
Halekulani offers an extensive co-ed fitness room complete with state-of-the-art exercise equipment: programmable treadmills, exercise bikes, and elliptical cross-trainers.
SpaHalekulani is the first spa anywhere to fully explore the healing cultures of the Pacific Islands, offering a full menu of massages, body and facial therapies, hair and nail care services, and more. The spa features seven relaxation suites, including two tandem suites for couples. Gray’s Beach, which fronts Halekulani, was known to early Hawaiians for its healing waters or Kawehewehe. The healing tradition of this beach continues today with SpaHalekulani, the first spa to fully explore the cultures of the Pacific Islands.
Oahu is a tropical wonder of beach and sand, mountains and jungles. It is everything a tropical paradise should be. There is enough to see and do here to keep busy for a lifetime, from the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Honolulu to the wild backcountry trekking on the windward side to the pristine beaches of the North Shore.
If Hawaii’s amazing collection of sweet-smelling flowers and trees has captured a fancy, Oahu offers plenty of opportunities to see and learn more. Foster Botanical Gardens, for example, is a sea of green on the edge of downtown Honolulu and home to the nation’s largest collection of tropical plants.
Travelers can’t leave Oahu without taking a drive on the Pali Highway. The road cuts through a lush rainforest, providing stunning views from its famous Nu’uanu Pali Lookout. From this windswept vantage point, the villages of Windward Oahu, the sparkling sweep of Kaneohe Bay, and the crystal blue surface of the Pacific spread for miles below.
Travelers can take a unique tour of the only restored royal palace in the United States. Built in 1882 for King Kalakaua, Iolani Palace offers a unique glimpse into the mystique and grandeur of Hawaii’s regal past. This Renaissance-style building was the official residence of King Kalakaua and Queen Lili’uokalani, Hawaii’s last two monarchs.
Dining
Award-winning chefs create one-of-a-kind dishes from Hawaii’s freshest, most delectable ingredients. Each of Halekulani’s three restaurants offers its own distinct style amid stunning views of the sea.
The inspiration is French, the fresh ingredients are Hawaiian, and the taste is simply divine... Perhaps nowhere is the Halekulani spirit of elegance and romance captured more beautifully than at La Mer. The internationally-acclaimed menu features Neoclassic French cuisine expertly crafted and served amid majestic ocean views.
Orchids is Halekulani’s casually elegant oceanfront restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner amidst an abundance of brightly-colored tropical orchids. Innovative creations are presented throughout the day in a relaxed, idyllic setting. Specialties include ahi-seared sashimi with Cajun spices, island-raised moi with hearts of palm, and oriental style steamed onaga.
Immortalized in a 1925 Charlie Chan novel, House Without A Key is Halekulani’s popular indoor/outdoor gathering spot. One of the favored traditions of the original Halekulani — cocktails and Hawaiian music under the century-old Kiawe tree — has been faithfully preserved here. Halekulani’s signature Mai Tai is a classic to be enjoyed any time of the day. Memorable sunsets with distinctive Hawaiian music nightly: two former Miss Hawaii’s, Kanoe Miller and Debbie Nakanelua, complement the music with their graceful and traditional hula.
Lewers Lounge is the perfect spot for early evening cocktails or after-dinner drinks. The Lounge has fabulous cocktails, tempting appetizers and desserts, and live entertainment.
Perhaps one of the most time-honored activities in Hawaii, is the traditional afternoon tea in the Veranda, featuring a wide selection of fine international teas, coffees, and freshly-baked cakes and pastries.
