Recreation

Guests can indulge in specialty Filipino massage and body treatments by professional therapists in their room, or in the privacy of the Spa. The range of energizing holistic body treatments includes Swedish and Shiatsu massage, together with gentle aromatherapy, plus today’s increasingly popular Spa treatment, the traditional Filipino art of Hilot, meaning to touch with caress, make use of antiseptic qualities of warmed banana leaves and heated virgin coconut oil to restore physical balance by detecting body’s disturbed energy flows. Spa facilities include Jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms. Travelers are welcome to relax in the peace of the charming terrace gardens with a drink by the pool.

The fitness centre offers the chance to exercise, swim and relax in picture-postcard tropical gardens. Personal trainers give complimentary advice on the use of the modern Life Fitness equipment and individual programs. The gym overlooks the pool, with individual television monitors on the modern equipment.

Guests can complete a perfect day of spa treatments and poolside relaxation with a visit to a hotel shopping arcade.

Dining

All definitely different, but each distinctly Peninsula, all the hotel’s restaurants combine Asian and international cuisines in informal settings, replete with a warm and gracious Filipino hospitality.

The hotel’s signature restaurant Old Manila has evolved with the times, the menu combining traditional French fine dining with modern international favorites such as seafood and US chilled Angus beef cooked on the open grill. The blond Narra wood paneling perfectly complements the modern pieces on display by popular Filipino artists.

The old world grandeur of the Escolta district is relived in Manila’s newest dining destination. Escolta features a vibrant open-plan kitchen, live-action stations, home-baked bread, fresh pastas, hand-rolled sushi, charcuterie, Chinese noodles, carving stations, artisanal ice-creams plus a «farm-to-table» concept that highlights fresh produce and favorite Filipino dishes. It has a video art wall and an aviation-themes private room.

Spices casts a mystical spell that keeps devotees returning to these enchantingly intimate enclave. Just steps from the main lobby, sandalwood incense mingles with the aromas of seven Asian cuisines and the gentle sounds of running water in a heady mix. True lovers of romance and authentic Asian food can expect to experience sensory indulgence either in the main dining room with candlelight and dark wood paneling, or in glassed garden pavilion.

The Peninsula Lobby is the place to see and be seen in Manila. Equally popular with visitors and locals alike, the renovated lobby is truly majestic, its four-storey high ceiling dominated by the dramatic central sunburst sculpture by national artist Napoleon Abueva. Sunlight steaming through long windows reflects a warm glow. Open 24 hours with wireless internet access, a buffet feast and afternoon tea makes it Manila’s focal rendezvous point.

The glamorous and sophisticated world of Madame Ning can be experienced in a night club Salon de Ning reminiscent of 1930s Shanghai. Amidst Art Deco objects, one can indulge in Salon de Ning Rose Chanpagne, the signature Ning Sling or other uniquely created cocktails. Features for themed rooms: Boxing, Shoes, Zeppelin and Shanghai and is an incredibly exciting new venue for private parties, special events or simply getting together with friends.

The big window blinds, leather seats and checkered floors echo the Art Deco interiors of the club lounge Salon de Ning next door. Guests can wind down with a beer, solo or with friends after a busy day. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the conviviality of the square bar or sink into a sofa in a booth. It caters to many guests who work with international schedules; the Bar is also the hotel’s designated smoking area.

The cool marble den of the Peninsula Boutique is an Aladdin’s cave of goodies, the freshest breads, cakes, sandwiches and deli specialties which are sold here. Guests can sit and enjoy coffee and a King Oscar cake, or get some Shueblig beef and pork sausage to take home. Gift ideas abound, with Peninsula wine, tea or hand made chocolates to name a few.

Guests can relax and enjoy the sense of tranquility in the midst of a busy city, with drinks and snacks at the Poolside Bar or served right at the sun lounger by the pool, surrounded by the lush tropical landscaped gardens.
