Infrastructure

A sense of being somewhere else. Inspired by Pre-Inca ruins, we worked with a local historian to recreate adobe structures so our guests feel transported into another world. The round shape and natural building materials (adobe, stone and wood) keep the suites cool in the heat of the day, and warm in the chilly evenings.

Discover time and space as the ultimate luxury with your own private guide and 4WD. In the world’s driest desert and at over 2,500 metres above sea level, this place will transport you to a different planet. Volcanoes, geysers, saltflats... the lansdcape changes magically with the light. No routes, no menu, experience your own path.

Exploring the Atacama Desert

What is there to see?

  • Geysers
  • Valleys
  • Canyons
  • Petroglyphs
  • Giant cacti
  • Flamingos
  • Vicunas
  • Foxes to name just a few...

Who else has been here?

Llama caravans first crossed Atacama Desert in 1000 BC. And in 1540, Spanish conquistador, Pedro de Valdivia, marched his troops across these parts as he journeyed south to found city of Santiago. Take a seat in the front row, watching the theatre of mother nature unfold.

Important Information

Minimum child age required is 10 years old. Children ages 10 to 18, sleeping on an additional bed pay the extra child charge of 50 pct per night (not included in the quote below). Guests over this age will be considered as adults. Additional beds must be approved by the hotel reservation’s team.

Inheritance

Eleven thousand years ago, Atacama was already inhabited by groups of hunter-gatherers. The Tiahuanaco and Inca cultures, and subsequently the Spanish conquistadors, have had a major influence on the Atacama culture, which was forced to adapt to changes in order to survive. The population is currently made up of descendants of the first inhabitants of the region, Atacameños and European colonists, with a strong Chilean and Quechua influence.

Awasi is Carbon Neutral

We protect 340 hectares of native woodland in Iguazú and Patagonia. These areas absorb over 10,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. This amount is greater than the emissions generated by our three lodges, including the travel emissions of our guests.

Dining

The star-filled sky serves as a ceiling for the restaurant and bar. Why would you want anything between you and the world’s clearest skies? In the Awasi kitchen we have the chance to rescue local products that are very seldom used in Chilean cooking. Taste, touch, smell sight and sound are the tools we have been given. You can also book a cookery class with Awasi Atacama Chef, Juan Pablo Mardones.
