Mandarin Oriental Prague

Prague, Czech republic

Built on the site of a former 14th century monastery, with high contemporary design blending seamlessly with period architectural features, Mandarin Oriental, Prague is a luxury hotel and a beautifully preserved piece of history. 99 luxury guestrooms run off stone corridors that echo the tranquility of this former monastery. Guest can choose from spacious contemporary interiors which provide a pure contrast to the Baroque city, or those with period details reflecting the historic origins of the hotel. Superior Rooms offer an especially warm atmosphere with soft carpet or wooden floors, deep plush furnishings and character features. The pillow menu and linen selections ensure the most restful sleep. The bathrooms have limestone floors that are cool in the summer and the under-floor heating is cozy in winter. Views are over the streets of Mala Strana or the monastery garden. Room size is approximately 30 square meters.

Location

The hotel is hidden in quiet cobbled streets of Mala Strana beneath Prague Castle, five minutes from Charles Bridge.

Recreation

The only spa in the world located in a former Renaissance chapel offers a unique spiritual space to begin a journey to equilibrium. For privacy guests can retreat in their robes through an underground passageway linked directly to the main building and their rooms. Spa facilities include six spa suites, of which two are ideal for couples, private heat and water facilities integrated within the suites: steam showers, Rasul, vitality pool; Thai massage suite, relaxation area and Fitness Centre.

A strenuous jog up Petrin hill will keep guests fit. The hotel also recommends the stunning Golf Resort Karlstejn with views of the 14th Century castle from every tee. The Fitness Center is equipped with state of the art cardio vascular and weight training machines. The services of a personal trainer are available.

Spa Boutique offers a range of scents, sounds and oils that are exclusive to Mandarin Oriental Spas. Products relate to specific Chinese elements and address the balance needs of the individual, which can be analyzed in a private consultation.

Dining

Hotel’s restaurants and bars combine period architectural features with a minimalist contemporary design and subtle eastern elements. Guests have a sense of being immersed in the historic surroundings while simultaneously enjoying a modern contrast to the city. Executive Chef Jiri Stift provides an exemplary culinary experience in both the field of modern Czech and Asian cuisine.

Essensia offers a contrasting contemporary design beneath vaulted ceilings, and menu of Asian and historic Czech recipes prepared with modern flair. Its ancient wine cellar is available for private bookings. The inspired menu is the creation of Executive Chef Jiri Stift; determined to revive the Golden Era of Czech cuisine for today’s high gourmet levels. In the early 20th century Prague was a European culinary centre. Gourmet restaurants, delicatessens and cooking schools abounded in the capital. Chef Stift has immersed himself in the archives and culled the best from earlier cuisine ambassadors to create a menu for the modern discerning palate.

Afternoon tea is served in the imposing Baroque colonnade of the Monastery Lounge’s former cloisters. Menu includes specialty infusions, delicate patisseries and light savories. During the summer a special Summer Afternoon Tea is available upon request. In addition to an array of seasonal sweets and pastries, menu offers specially selected teas by Harney’s and Sons, focusing on jasmine and other scented teas alone with caffeine-free tisanes and stunning display teas, which resemble real blooms.

The cobbled courtyard leads into one of Prague’s most sophisticated bars, Barego; a mixology of lights, textures and modern cocktails. Even those who don’t know a soul in Prague, soon have the inside track when joining the city’s movers and shakers in this sophisticated space hidden in the quiet streets of Mala Strana. It’s not easy being all things to all people, but Barego comes pretty close. The perfect spot for a perfect drink, celebratory cocktails, a light snack, or a late-night liqueur, this bar has it all with atmosphere to spare. The town’s most tempting spiced Thai fish cakes with an icy Czech beer are also on the offer.
