Amanjena

Marrakech, Morocco

Opened in 2000

Inspired by the rose-hued buildings of old Marrakech, palatial Amanjena is close to the fabled Red City, set in its own expanse of gardens and grand open spaces. Shaded courtyards with fountains lead to the central bassin that nourishes the gardens in which spacious standalone guest pavilions and maisons rest, all with private gardens and many with private pools. Views stretch across the olive groves and palms of the oasis, extending to the High Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Spend time relaxing by the pool, enjoy a game of tennis on one of Amanjena’s clay courts, take to the 27-hole Amelkis Golf Course which sits next door, or visit the otherworldly landscape of the Agafay dunes deep in the desert.

Location

20-minute drive from Marrakech Menara Airport.

Accomodation

Ideal for couples seeking a tranquil retreat, Pavilion Bassin suites have traditional zellij tiled floors and Moroccan accents, balancing both opulence and comfort with a king-sized bed and spacious living area with wood-burning fireplace. Outside, a private courtyard garden where a traditional gazebo shades an oversized daybed is perfectly suited to afternoons spent relaxing in consummate privacy.

Pavilion Piscine

Offering a large, heated swimming pool within a private garden, Amanjena’s 220 square metre (2,638 square feet) Pavilion Piscine features Berber carpets, zellij tiles floors and soaring mirrors to create a classic Moroccan feel. Ideal for couples, a king-sized bed with opulent green marble bathroom is accompanied by a large living area, as well as the expansive garden, complete with spacious traditional outdoor gazebo perfect for dining and relaxing, as well as the heated pool. For large families, or groups of friends, adjacent Pool Pavilions can be connected via courtyard doors creating a more social outdoor layout if desired.

Al Hamra Maison

Amanjena’s standalone Al Hamra Maison offers an expansive 1,130 square metres (12,163 square feet) of space, set within a private garden, complete with large, heated pool, two large traditional outdoor gazebos for dining and lounging and a spacious main pavilion. The Maison sleeps up to four guests, making it ideal for families or small groups of friends with two master suites, each comprising large bedroom, dressing room and bathroom, exquisitely finished in green marble from Ouarzazate with a stepped and columned bathtub encouraging rest and relaxation.

The main living space sits between the two suites, offering a spacious living and dining area, opening out onto the extensive private garden. Al Hamra Maison is also home to a private bar and stocked pantry, with a private host on hand to tend to every need. Design features reflect the character and charm of the resort’s beautiful location, with Berber carpets, zellij tiled floors and large mirrors, creating an elegant atmosphere, while the spacious private gardens and outdoor gazebos for dining and relaxation create an expansive private oasis for guests.

Marrakech by motorbike

Discover up close the landscapes of Marrakech in just two hours, with an exclusive sidecar tour of the city and its surroundings. Begin in the desert-defying greenery of the Palmeraie, the oasis home of Amanjena, before venturing through the earthen walls of the Red City to explore secret side streets and the hidden gardens of medieval riads.

E-bike adventures in the Agafay dunes

The starkly beautiful, almost lunar landscape of Agafay is an otherworldly wonder that many visitors to Morocco never get to explore. Take one of Amanjena’s effort-saving e-bikes for a 35km guided tour across the ‘Marrakech Sahara’, taking in cacti, eucalyptus, historic villages and the eye-opening drama of the dunes.

The heights of Atlas

Rising from the sands of the Sahara 4,167 metres to the top of Jbel Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak, the Atlas Mountains are one of the world’s most dramatic ranges. Ascend to Kasbah du Toubkal by car, helicopter or foot, and enjoy a picnic lunch with panoramic views, 1,800 metres above sea level.

Golf in the desert

Moments from Amanjena and the Old Town, the 27-hole Amelkis Golf Club is ranked as one of the finest in Morocco, known for the technical challenges posed by a number of its holes. Not far away Royal Golf Marrakech offers a narrower layout with lush vegetation and gardens that date back to the 1930.

Childrens’ events to delight and inspire

Families can enjoy carriage rides with Tarik, Amanjena’s pet donkey, take part in calligraphy workshops, or book tennis or golf lessons to hone their skills. During school-holiday periods, a traditional Moroccan tent in the olive grove becomes the daily activity hub and hangout space.

Family living space

With multiple interconnecting bedrooms and up to two extra beds available for children, Amanjena’s spacious Maisons are ideal for families of every size. Cots for babies can be set up where needed, and the resort team is delighted to help guests save luggage space by providing childcare essentials such as highchairs, baby baths and more. Just for kids. In addition to the resort’s main pool, Amanjena has a dedicated heated swimming pool for smaller children and toddlers, allowing youngsters to swim, splash and play in safety.

Dining

The Moroccan Restaurant

Local musicians provide the soundtrack to dining in the restaurant’s serene courtyard every evening, a candlelit fountain at its heart. Berber culinary traditions and Moorish, Andalusian and Middle Eastern influences meet on the all-day menu — a kaleidoscope of flavours true to the melting-pot cuisine of Morocco. Guests can also order from an Italian menu by signature Aman restaurant, Arva.

Nama

Overlooking Amanjena’s serene swimming pool, Nama celebrates Japan’s Unesco-protected washoku cuisine with artfully plated sushi and sashimi at the heart of its menu. Open for lunch and dinner Wednesday — Sunday, the restaurant is centred by a robata grill and sushi counter, where guests can watch the chefs work their magic. Fresh seafood is delivered daily from Essaouira on the coast.

Barbecues

Sheltered from the Moroccan midday sun, enjoy weekly Sunday barbecues, featuring the finest Mediterranean & Moroccan specialties, within Amanjena’s ancient olive grove.

Pool Terrace & Olive Grove

Amanjena’s open-air Pool Terrace unfolds beneath an array of gracious arches, providing shade from the heat of the Moroccan sun — an ideal setting for all-day dining. The extensive menu includes salads, light meals and a selection of grilled meats and seafood.

The Bar

A mood of easygoing elegance pervades Amanjena’s atmospheric Bar with its signature columns and lofty ceiling. Here, Aman’s award-winning bartender blends the finest spirits with the fruits and herbs of Morocco to create extraordinary signature cocktails.
