The hotel is located in the southern part of Sumba, facing the westernmost part of Australia and then it’s nothing and no one until the end of the world. This feeling of solitude is incredible especially as you take a deep breath of fresh air from your private patio which overlooks the ocean.

The hotel’s owner Nihi Sumba has created the Sumba Foundation, which helps to provide clean water, food and medicine, as well as proper education for Sumba’s children. The foundation has a lot of ways for guests to help if they wish to do so. Even the smallest donations can help change not only one person’s life for the better but an entire village maybe

Location

NIHI Sumba Resort is located in the town of Vatukarere. The hotel is a 1.5 hour drive from Tambolaka Airport. The airport transfer hints at an unforgettable and unusual holiday at the hotel — a spacious jeep safari under the open sky, which will provide you with a new amazing experience on your way to the hotel.

There are daily flights from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar to Sumba Island’s Tambolaka Airport. There are additional routes to Sumba Island from Jakarta and Surabaya international airports, both on Java, flying through Kupang.

Infrastructure

The hotel arranges a large number of activities from waterfall treks to cycling to nearby villages to standup paddling in a river or the ocean and even chocolate making classes.

Nihi Sumba is home to a stable of gentle and majestic Sumbawese horses that the hotel staff guide to the ocean for a swim everyday. The swimming with the horses is a star of the show, this activity is open to everyone.

Also, perched above the crashing waves of the Indian ocean, Boathouse Spa is an experience not to be missed. Spa offer a range of treatments from manicures and pedicures to signature Nihi massage that can be enjoyed on site as well as in the privacy of your own room or any one of picturesque spa bales that punctuate the property.

The hotel has a rich entertainment program for children, which includes creative workshops, exploring the local nature and culture, pony rides, children’s yoga, active games on the beach, a visit to a chocolate factory and much more.

Dining

The menu is strongly based on the fruits of the sea, with Asian, international, and vegetarian options. All dishes from the menu are prepared using fresh ingredients from the organic garden on site. Local fish are caught daily to create exceptional culinary creations.

Ombak

The hub of social activity is the main sandy-floored Ombak (meaning wave front) restaurant. Ombak, an exquisitely crafted open-air restaurant, serves a la carte breakfast and dinner daily with a relaxed convivial atmosphere. During the week we create special dining experiences including spectacular BBQs.

The Nest

The Nest is a bar lounge perched on the crest of the ocean, perfect for a romantic dinner or an intimate group meal.

Nio Beach Club & Pool

The Nio Beach Club is located just a few steps from the sea. There are outdoor pavilions at your service, where you can enjoy dishes from the highest quality ingredients for lunch: be it freshly caught fish from the sea, tasty vegetables or legumes.

The newest addition is a state-of-the-art resort lap pool, perched on the Edge of Wildness with soothing, cooling, and epic views of the ocean, sunsets, Occy’s Left and local village life during low tides. Lunch or snacks are served by the pool, and for special occasions, we create magical settings for romantic dinners.

Kaboku

Kaboku is beachfront sushi bar. The restaurant is open five nights a week from 6pm until 10pm, with advance reservations. The seven-course menu of local ingredients also includes avocado tofu, shrimp dumplings, Teriyaki dishes, miso soup, desserts, and more. Try the sake and wine pairing with your meal.
