A new benchmark for over-water luxury, innovative dining concepts and holistic wellbeing — turning the page with Soneva Jani Chapter Two. If ‘luxury’ is defined as a rarity, then in today’s society that means peace, time and space. At Soneva, our unique experiences are in keeping with our interpretation of luxury. Real luxury is about feeling the sand between your toes or enjoying dinner under a canopy of a billion stars. It is about reconnecting with oneself and the natural world, and so the experiences we create for our guests are as far removed from the urban environment as possible. We intend to provide real luxury and rare experiences that strike a chord in our guests’ hearts.

Location

Transfers are arranged by our Reservations Team, and flights can also be arranged via our website booking engine. You can take a 45-minute private seaplane from Malé International Airport direct to the resort. There are currently no domestic flights operating to Soneva Jani, but we expect that there will be in the near future.

Accomodation

1 Bedroom Water Retreat with Slide

Slide into the lagoon, frolic in the pool, wash away sand and salt in the outdoor bathroom. Open your bedroom to the stars at night. Spread across two floors, the One Bedroom Water Retreat comes with a private pool surrounded by ample area for sunbathing and taking in the ocean vistas. Watch the stars from the comfort of the master bedroom with the villa’s retractable roof.

2 Bedroom Water Reserve

This expansive two-bedroom Water Reserve has been specially designed as a mobility-friendly space that accommodates wheelchairs. A retractable roof over the master bedroom slides back at the touch of a button to reveal starry skies. Also found on the ground floor are a spacious, light-filled living room. Outside, a vast deck with loungers, swing and catamaran nets surrounds the private freshwater pool. The spacious TV lounge on the ground floor can be converted into a bedroom on request for disabled guests — there is also a specially designed bathroom fitted with grab bars and rails.

4 Bedroom Island Reserve with Slide

Your own luxurious beachfront mansion. Frolic in the sea or the shade. Refresh your soul in the sauna or with sundowners from the cellar. An expansive beachfront suite, the Four Bedroom Island Reserve affords a wealth of luxury while allowing for customisation depending on your requirements. Spacious indoor-outdoor living areas abound, including a steam bath, changing room, sauna, master bedroom, TV lounge, dining room, private pool, kitchen, and wine vault. The second floor is home to a further three bedrooms with bathrooms and dressing rooms, and the villa’s private gym. The pool has its own water slide, as well as a dedicated children’s pool.

Soneva Soul Spa

The Spa is complemented by our fully-equipped gym and cross-functional fitness suites, as well as a yoga pavillion, open-air spa champas and sauna and steam facilities. Throughout the year, we also welcome a line-up of leading names from the world of sport and fitness through our Soneva Stars programme, from legendary tennis and football players to champion free divers.

Soneva in Aqua Day Experience

After your on-shore breakfast, the captain and crew will welcome you aboard Soneva in Aqua and set sail for the snorkelling areas within the Baa Atoll, the only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Maldives. Keep your eyes peeled for turtles, dolphins and possibly manta rays (*season and weather dependent). Enjoy a bespoke lunch menu on-board, prepared by your personal chef. After lunch, grab your fins, mask and snorkel for some underwater sightseeing in some of the best spots in the area, followed by some hard earned relaxation time in the sun or in our outdoor Jacuzzi. Enjoy a personalised treatment of your choice from our on-board massage therapist. As the sun sets, lie in our bowsprit nets and search for playing dolphins. The chef will prepare canapés and pop the sparkling wine upon your return to Soneva Jani.

Water Sports

Non-Motorised Water Sports. We offer a range of complimentary non-motorised water sports, including kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, windsurfing, kite surfing, night paddleboarding and catamarans. Private tuition is available at an additional charge on an hourly basis.
Motorised Water Sports. Experience the ocean with complete freedom. Gliding, diving, skimming — all of this is possible with a SEABOB. Learn to move through the water like a fish, on the surface and beneath the waves. What happens if you fit a surfboard with a motor? You get an eSurf-board. The eSurf lets you get up to speeds of 56km per hour, making this an exhilarating water sport.

Eco-Friendly Surfing

Discover secret surf breaks in the Noonu Atoll accompanied by our surf instructor/guides. All surf breaks are accessible within a 5 — 35 minute speedboat ride. Surf season is dependent on Mother Nature’s mood, though it does peak from May — September. Waves range from waist to head height. All equipment is eco-friendly and made from recycled wasted, making us the first fully sustainable surfing programme in the world.

Noonu Atoll Guided Snorkelling

Take an aquatic adventure through the waters of the Noonu Atoll and discover the diversity of Maldivian marine life, guided by our resident Marine Biologist. The atoll-native sea turtles and rays may make a special appearance, as you experience the magnificence of life below the sea.

Turtle on Call

Get a glimpse into the lives of some of the Maldives’ sea turtles with the help of our Marine Biologist. Don’t miss your chance to see a mother turtle lay her eggs in the sand, tiny hatchlings make their way to the ocean, or come to the aid of turtles who need assistance. Please let your Barefoot Butler know so they can add your name to the Turtle On Call register.

Sunset Dolphin Cruise

Enjoy an out-of-this-world experience watching playful dolphins in the light of the setting sun. Cruise into deeper water while indulging in a selection of canapés and sparkling wine, making wonderful memories along the way. Although dolphin sightings are not guaranteed, we know their favourite areas to play.

Private Cinema Paradiso

Watch classic and contemporary favourites beneath the stars or take your Cinema Paradiso experience to new heights, while our chefs craft a menu of comfort food and nibbles. Refreshing cocktails, complimentary popcorn and ice creams can also be arranged.

The Den

Our Mini Den is a technology-free zone, where we encourage all our young guests to learn, play, discover nature, and let their creativity and curiosity run wild. To ensure everyone is engaged in their activities we ask you to make sure their phones and tablets are left in your villa before they come to the Mini Den.

Soneva Academy

We are delighted to introduce you to the Soneva Academy, which offers educational courses to children and teenagers (aged 12 and up) at Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani. All our courses consist of four modules (3 sessions and one exam). The certification level takes young Sonevians from junior to expert, adding a new dimension to their schooling.

Overseas by Mathias Dahlgren

With a name inspired by its breath-taking overwater location in Soneva Jani’s lagoon, Overseas by Mathias Dahlgren is the brainchild of the acclaimed Swedish chef and restaurateur. After visiting Soneva Jani, Mathias fell in love with the location and wanted to celebrate the seafood found in the Indian Ocean and the produce grown in the resort’s organic gardens. Located by The Gathering, the overwater al fresco restaurant and kitchen has a laid-back atmosphere with uninterrupted views towards the horizon is open for lunch and dinner.

So Wild By Diana Von Cranach

Dine on a health-conscious, plant-based menu designed by the innovative raw food chef Diana Von Cranach, showcasing unique and simple dishes that revive historical, nearly-forgotten traditional recipes from the Indonesian Spice Islands and South East Asia. Ninety per cent of the ingredients come freshly picked from Soneva Jani’s organic garden and most dishes will be raw. Expect some unusual ingredients, as well as healing herbs and botanics.

The Crab Shack

With an upstairs deck for watching the sunset, try the Sri Lankan Mud Crab curry, or the Alaskan crabs that rotate through the week. A selection of rosés are the highlight of the drinks menu. Voted as the ‘World’s Most Romantic Restaurant’ on CNN.com. The 32 cover restaurant and 14 seat bar is located on Soneva Jani’s southwest beach, on the opposite side of the island to Cinema Paradiso, and is comprised of two levels. The ground floor is taken up by the restaurant, kitchen and bar area, with the first-floor deck designed especially for guests to relax on tiered daybeds and enjoy the Maldivian sunsets while sipping on rosé wine or other beverages.

So Primitive

So Primitive’s centrepiece is a fire pit where different cooking techniques are honoured. Think roasting, grilling, searing and cooking in a kettle, clay pots (on coals), salt-crusted baking and cooking over coals. Set around the central fire pit, this dining experience puts the element of fire in the spotlight. Choose from a menu that features fresh seafood, meats, and plant-based dishes.
