Six Senses Bumthang

Bumthang , Bhutan

9°C 12:55:45

Opened in March 2019

The beauty and magic of Bumthang is in its connection to the rivers and forests that line the valley. Set in pine forest above a bubbling, trout-filled stream, Six Senses Bumthang blends with the pristine natural beauty of its surroundings, honoring the natural environment rather than impacting it.

The lodge’s eight suites and one two-bedroom villa feature hemlock and pine blending inside and out, spacious balconies, and calming forest views across the valley. You don’t even need to go outside to forest because each suite is built around a courtyard with your own tree planted within it.

Six Senses Spa Bumthang upholds the happiness practice of Culture, where immersing in the Kingdom’s culture of happiness can create a deeper connection with our own cultural identity and make us feel more joyful too.

Location

To get to Six Senses Bumthang , you'll first fly into Paro Airport in Bhutan, typically routed through Bangkok, Singapore, Kathmandu, or New Delhi.

Once you arrive at Paro, a Six Senses representative will be there to greet you and accompany you on a scenic road trip to Bumthang. From Paro, you'll embark on a scenic drive through Bhutan's valleys, with a Six Senses guide and driver, to reach the lodge in Bumthang. This journey can include sights like the Trongsa Dzong and the Yotong La Mountains.

The drive itself is part of the experience, allowing you to soak in the beauty and culture of Bhutan along the way.

Spa Six Senses Bumthang

At Six Senses Bumthang, we focus on bringing happiness by enveloping the Bhutanese culture into our treatments and rituals.

Hingsangsa Zoni Bathing Ritual and Cleanse

De-stress and invigorate the body and mind with the Hingsangsa Zoni Bathing Ritual and Cleanse. This locally-inspired treatment starts with exfoliation using Himalayan salts to gently stimulate the circulation and encourage lymphatic drainage, followed by a traditional Dotsho stone bath to encourage the body to release toxins before a luxurious, personalized full body massage.

Experience in the valley

The valleys of Bumthang are at your fingertips with a range of hikes - such as those that lead you to the rugged Padseling Goemba fortress and meander through low-lying fields. With Bhutanese monuments in every direction, you can see some of the country's earliest paintings at the Tamzhing Lhundrup Lhakhang temple or visit the 'Castle of the White Bird' where great sieges were weathered. Travel to the Burning Lake where a legendary figure once emerged holding a lamp that was still alight.

Bumthang provides the perfect base for a range of activities including half and full-day treks to the valley’s most important sites as well as opportunities to bike and horseback ride. Other activities include visits to local villages, archery lessons and mushroom foraging.

Bumthang is home to some of the Kingdom’s most revered pilgrimage sites. Kurjey Llakhang for one is believed to have been the resting place of Guru Rinpoche while Jambay Llakhang is home to a winter festival that draws thousands of Bhutanese for their annual blessings.

The 19th century Wangdichhoeling Palace is a wonderful example of traditional Bhutanese architecture and well worth a visit. Guests can also stop at the Red Panda brewery for a taste of icy-cold, locally-brewed wheat beer. There are regular domestic flights between Bumthang to Paro.

Dining

Dining at Six Senses Bumthang celebrates Bhutan’s culinary heritage through the “Eat With Six Senses” philosophy. Menus are crafted using fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and the lodge’s organic gardens. Guests can enjoy unique experiences such as riverside picnics, where chefs prepare fresh fish on heated river stones over woodsmoke, set against the backdrop of a clear, fast-flowing river.

Tongtshang Restaurant

Tongtshang Restaurant accommodates 24 guests indoors and an additional 12 on a cozy terrace overlooking the picturesque surroundings. Here, you will find exquisite cuisine in a warm, inviting atmosphere where every guest feels truly special.
